Gympie River to Rail Trail Network

The Gympie River to Rail Trail is a mix of nature and urban hiking. The trail circumnavigates the town of Gympie, taking in the multitude of biomes the area has to offer. With this trail, you can take a leisurely stroll down Mary Street. Otherwise, if nature is more your thing, start at the Deep Creek Fossicking Area and head for the river sections of the trail, following the Mary River. Here you may even stumble across some native locals splashing in the river. In contrast, you could take in the more urban areas of the trail and zigzag your way through the residential areas, while stopping for a breather at Andrew Fisher Memorial Park, named after the former Prime Minister. Moreover, the sections of the trail at One Mile Oval and Deep Creek Fossicking Area offer some beautiful views.

The River to Rail Trail offers varying degrees of difficulty, from level stretches of track to some reasonably steep sections. The River to Rail Trail is approximately nine and a half kilometres for the entire loop. Allow up to three hours to walk the entire trail, not including rest stops. Furthermore, there are plenty of shops to stop by and catch your breath. One great thing about the River to Rail Trail is, is that there are multiple starting points located throughout the trail. These starting points feature a map of the trail, distance to the next waypoint, and any interesting features nearby.

Additionally, more information about the River to Rail Trail can be found on the Gympie Regional Council Website. Included here is an informational brochure and a map of the trail.
